Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan

Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan

The NT Planning Commission has developed a land use plan for the town of Alice Springs and its surrounding areas, from the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gape in the west to Undoolya in the east, Amoonguna in the south-east and the Brewer Industrial Estate and Alice Springs Correctional Facility in the south.

The Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan provides a long term strategic framework to anticipate and manage future growth and development in the Alice Springs region. It integrates strategic land use, transport and infrastructure planning to deliver more sustainable and cost-effective outcomes for the community while safeguarding natural resources for future generations.

The Plan is the culmination of six months of investigations and consultations, including conversations with the community and stakeholders following the early release of a detailed discussion paper and background investigation report in September 2015 and then again following the subsequent release of a draft plan for further feedback in November 2015.

In March 2016, the Planning Commission recommended the Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan to the Minister for Lands and Planning for exhibition as a Planning Scheme amendment.

As a reference document in the NT Planning Scheme, the Plan will guide more detailed planning including the future development of area plans in consultation with the Alice Springs Community.
